Why "Follow the Child"?

If you are familiar with the Montessori approach you probably are not surprised as to why we’ve chosen ‘Follow the Child’ as a name for our store.

And if you are new to Montessori, then allow us to explain.

First, what is Montessori?

No way we can properly answer this question with a single blog post - the topic is so very deep and broad! But if we have to, this is how we would like to put the definition of ‘Montessori’ into words:

Montessori is an educational philosophy centered around the Child, it acknowledges the Child’s natural desire to learn. The role of a parent/teacher in Montessori is to observe the Child and to encourage Her independent learning by preparing the environment that is welcoming, built with Child’s interests in mind, appropriate for Her current developmental stage, and challenging enough at the same time. So if we had to chose a slogan for the Montessori approach, it would be this: “Follow the Child!”

Maria Montessori, the founder of the Montessori method, designed many materials that encourage the Child to learn and master Her skills. And we are incredibly happy to help you practicing Montessori with your Child by offering a range of these materials in our store. However, remember that Montessori is a lot more than just “toys”, so, as much as you can, observe, gently guide and Follow the Child
